How to report someone on video chat, and what happens next

In short

Use the report button during the conversation and state the reason: every report on decal is reviewed by a person, and your identity is never shared with the person you reported. Sanctions are graduated, except for sexual content, a minor, or a threat, which close the account immediately. Wrongly suspended accounts can be appealed and restored in full.

What you can report

  • nudity, sexual acts, or sexual content of any kind
  • a minor appearing on camera, for any reason whatsoever
  • harassment, insults, or threats
  • hateful, racist or discriminatory speech and symbols
  • someone recording or rebroadcasting you without your consent
  • advertising, soliciting, or a request for money

The full list of what is never allowed on decal is on the community rules page.

How to report on decal

A report button is available during every conversation, not hidden behind menus. Press it, pick the reason that matches what happened, and submit.

You do not need to wait until the conversation ends, and you do not need to keep talking to the other person once you have decided to report them. Leave whenever you want, before or after reporting. For habits that reduce how often you need any of this, see how to stay safe on video chat.

What happens after you report

Every report is reviewed by a person. The person you reported is never told who reported them, under any circumstance.

Sanctions are graduated: a warning first, then a temporary suspension, then permanent closure for repeated or serious violations. Sexual content, a minor on camera, or a threat skip that ladder entirely. The account closes immediately, with no prior warning and no refund.

Anything that involves the exploitation of a minor is reported to the competent authorities, without exception.

What we keep as evidence

Captures used to support a report are kept for thirty days at most, then deleted. The only exception is a case still open to appeal, where the capture is kept until that appeal is resolved.

If you were suspended and think it was a mistake

Automated moderation gets things wrong sometimes. Write to hello@decal.ink and describe what happened. A person reads it, not a script.

We answer within seventy-two hours, and an account suspended in error is restored in full.

Reporting in bad faith

The report button is not a way to remove someone you simply disliked talking to. Repeated reports used to harass or silence someone are themselves sanctioned. That is what keeps the system usable for everyone.

Common questions

How do I report someone on decal?

Use the report button available during the conversation, pick the reason that matches what happened, and submit. You do not need to wait until the conversation ends, and you can leave before or after reporting.

Will the person I report find out who reported them?

No. The other person is never told who reported them, under any circumstance. Reporting exposes you to nothing on your side of the conversation.

What happens after I submit a report?

A person reviews it. Depending on severity, the outcome is a warning, a temporary suspension, or permanent closure of the other account. Sexual content, a minor on camera, or a threat lead to immediate closure, with no warning and no refund.

How do I appeal a suspension I think was unfair?

Write to hello@decal.ink and describe what happened. Every appeal is read by a person, we answer within seventy-two hours, and an account suspended in error is restored in full.

Can I get in trouble for reporting someone falsely?

Yes, if it is repeated and used in bad faith to harm someone rather than to flag real behavior. A single honest report that turns out to be mistaken is not a problem.
