Truth or dare online with strangers (on video)
In short
Truth or dare online means playing the classic game with a stranger over video instead of in the same room. On decal it is one of three in-call mini-games: an invite goes out, the other person accepts or declines within 30 seconds, and whoever’s turn it is then picks truth or dare from a pool of 24 cards each, always light, never sexual.
Truth or dare online, with an actual stranger
Truth or dare online is the same game people have played for years, just moved onto a video call instead of a room full of friends. The twist with a stranger is that neither of you knows the other’s answers in advance, which is most of the appeal: every truth is new information, and every dare is being asked of someone who has no idea what you are like yet.
On decal, it is one of the three mini-games you can open mid-call, alongside tic-tac-toe and two truths and a lie. Like the other two, it only starts once the other person has agreed to play.
What the cards actually say
The pool holds 24 dares and 24 truths, pulled at random and never repeated until the full set has been used once. A few, taken directly from the deck, give a sense of the tone:
- Dare: “Do your best animal impression for 10 seconds.”
- Dare: “Tell a joke, even a bad one.”
- Dare: “Give the other person a sincere compliment.”
- Truth: “What’s the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?”
- Truth: “What’s your biggest fear?”
- Truth: “What do you notice first in someone?”
A turn works the same way every time. Whoever is up picks truth or dare, the card appears on their screen and on the other person’s, and once it has been answered or acted out, a tap on “Done” marks it, or “Skip” moves past it, no questions asked. Decal counts the dares actually carried out for both of you as you go.
Why the cards stay on this side of the line
decal is an 18+ service, and the deck is written with that in mind, not as a loophole around it. Every card is picked to stay playful rather than sexual or humiliating, which is also why the list is fixed instead of open text: nobody is typing a question live, so nobody can slip something past the intent of the game.
That said, the cards only cover what the game itself shows. What either of you says or does out loud during a round is still part of the same video call, and still covered by the same reporting tools as any other moment on a chat with a stranger. A dare or a truth is never a reason to ignore behaviour that would otherwise get reported.
How a round starts, step by step
- Press the Games button, which sits under the video on a computer and a phone alike, and pick “Truth or dare” from the list of three.
- The other person sees that name before answering, with 30 seconds to accept or let the invite expire on its own.
- Whoever accepted goes first, choosing truth or dare, and turns alternate from there until either of you closes the panel.
- Scores track dares actually done for the length of the call, and either side can offer a rematch once you are ready to stop.
Want dares with your friends, in real life?
Truth or dare with a stranger happens on decal. To send dares to your friends in real life, there is Dareo, another app from the same maker: you send each other dares, complete them and share the proof. It is free on Google Play, and everything is explained at getdareo.com.
If this is not the right game for the moment
A faster, more competitive break is what tic-tac-toe on a video call is for, and a game built around paying closer attention to what someone says is two truths and a lie. All three sit on the video chat games page, with more on when each one fits. If you are still choosing where to meet a stranger on video in the first place, our Omegle alternatives page covers that. Otherwise, start from the decal home page and the Games button will be there the moment you connect with someone.
Common questions
What is truth or dare online, exactly?
The same game as in person, played with a stranger over video instead of face to face in a room. On decal it runs as one of three mini-games you can open during a call, with the cards shown on screen to both of you.
Are the questions and dares appropriate?
Yes. The cards are written on purpose to stay light and charming, never sexual and never designed to put anyone on the spot. The same 18+ rules and moderation that cover the rest of the chat still apply to anything said out loud during a round.
Can I skip a dare or a question?
Any time, with no explanation needed. Skipping does not end the round, it just passes the card and moves on to the next turn.
How many cards are there?
Twenty-four dares and twenty-four truths. Once a side has drawn through all 24 of one type without a repeat, decal starts drawing from that full set again.
Do I choose the card, or does the other person?
Whoever’s turn it is picks “truth” or “dare” themselves, then gets a random card of that type. Turns alternate after each card, whether it was done or skipped.
Is truth or dare online free on decal?
Yes. It is free for every account, exactly like the rest of video chat and the other two mini-games.
